RDP Sunday: succession

Very happy Sunday after Earth Day and the Ragtag Daily Prompt is succession.

I am thinking of this definition: “The gradual replacement of one type of ecological community by another in the same area, involving a series of orderly changes, especially in the dominant vegetation, and often resulting in the establishment of a climax community.” from here. However, you do you, as my daughter says. That is the seventh definition in that link. Draw a picture, take a photograph, tell a story, sing a song or a poem and link back to this prompt. Remember to enjoy all of the other contributions!

I stopped mowing half of my property back in 2007. It is in the middle of the block, with little sight from the road because of a huge rosa rugosa. The deer love it and raccoons and birds. A towhee nested on the ground last year, in the invasive blackberries. The oregon grape above is spreading, so local plants are returning in succession. It is nice to watch and have a wild place.

Have a wonderful Sunday!

  1. I tried that and … well, I’ve called in a gardening specialist this year and was told that because of the conditions of the piece of garden the idea of a bee meadow wouldn’t work. We are reverting back to grass and mowing 😟

    1. Wonderful. Yes, three of us became the senior primary care doctors at the hospital and found it scary, since we were all in our 50s. Our backing was gone and we were now the backing and mentors.
