ok, this one should make you all happy.  This word is 500 years old!

Fabulist

adjective:
noun
plural: fabulists

  1. a person who composes or relates fables.
  2. a liar, especially a person who invents elaborate, dishonest stories.

The root of fabulist is from the Old French fable meaning a “lie or pretense,” which in its turn came from the Latin fabula, “story, play, or tale,” or literally, “that which is told.”  So that’s why it can mean either storyteller or liar.  Up you which way you go.
